AGIA KYRIAKI ÍÏÌÉÁ KONAKIA - STROTZA(PROSILIO) PYLOS SKYFIANIKA KARYOUPOLI - SKAMNAKI KALLIAZI

ÊALIAZI

Kalliazi is a settlement, now ramshackle, located near the village of Germa, at the limits between Outer and Inner Mani
The name comes according to Ioannis Patsourakos from the Greek expression "Kallio zin" which means «better living» or «better life» and according to our family tradition it was given to the area by our ancestors who left the village of Nomia and settled in Kalliazi around 1400 Kalliazi looking for a better life.
The family remained in the area until around 1470, but because the place was hostile and infertile they migrated.
From Kalliazi the family split into several branches which settled in different villages around the region (Konakia, Strotza, Karyoupoli, Skamnaki, etc.).
Today in Kalliazi one can find only ruins of houses and a small church.
